World Book Day at Uplands was a resounding success, filled with a variety of engaging activities that captivated the children’s imaginations and fostered a love for reading. The excitement and joy were palpable as the children dove into a plethora of activities designed to celebrate the magic of books and storytelling.
Our young learners showcased their creativity by designing unique bookmarks, each one a testament to their artistic flair and love for books. They were also enthralled by Michael Rosen’s storytelling videos, bringing stories to life with his vibrant narration and captivating them with every word. Additionally, the students took on the task of researching their own authors, discovering new worlds and expanding their literary horizons. Accessing new books is a brilliant way to foster a love of reading and the children took part in a book blanket activity which enabled them to pick a book at random and read it for a sustained period of time. It was lovely to see so many children take the book away and want to read more.
One of the highlights of the day was the delightful parade of children dressed up as new words, turning vocabulary into a fun and interactive experience. They sat and enjoyed reading sessions with their peers, teachers, and parents, creating an atmosphere of shared learning and joy. The presence of parents in the classroom added a special touch to the day, making it a memorable event for everyone involved.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents who took the time to join us. Their participation and support were invaluable, and the children truly enjoyed having them there. The positive feedback from parents has been overwhelming:
“I was very happy and enjoyed as have attended for the first time. I regret not coming all those years (busy working) with the children. Even parents learn something new. Really happy.”
“Lovely class, very well behaved. I enjoyed listening to my child’s reading and seeing how he interacts in class setting. Thankyou.”
“Nice to go into class and interact with children.”
“Teachers and helpful and encouraging, it is much appreciated.”
“I enjoyed reading with Ahmed, he enjoyed it a lot, it was a great experience.”
Such positive experiences highlight the importance of literacy and community involvement in our children’s development. These activities not only enhance their reading skills but also foster a sense of community and shared learning.
We would like to remind the children to take their book vouchers to the bookstore to redeem them for a free book. Encourage them to keep reading at home, as this is crucial for their continued growth and development.
In conclusion, World Book Day at Uplands was a celebration of literacy, creativity, and community. We are grateful for the support and involvement of our parents, and we look forward to nurturing our children’s love for reading in the years to come.
