Music Development Plan 2024-25

We are proud to be a Music Mark School 2023-2024 and have been awarded the ‘Leicestershire Music Developing Quality’ Silver Award.

From singing in assembly, performing in a rock band, choir practice and learning to play a range of instruments,  our pupils enjoy a wide variety of music.

Below you will see examples of music in action throughout the school.

Learning to play instruments

A musical journey through time

Gregory Smith visited Uplands recently to lead our weekly singing assembly and take the children on a musical journey through black history. They travelled from Africa to America and then to England singing songs such as Wade in the Water, I Wish I Knew How it Would Feel to be Free, Hit the Road Jack and Happy Day.

Preparing for the Young Voices concert

Our children are excited about the Young Voices concert we will be attending in January where they will meet in Birmingham to sing with 5000 other children. They having fun learning the songs.

New Rock Steady bands for 2024

We have four Uplands rock bands this term called: Five Flames; The Six Dragons; The Elder Dragons and The 6 Rock Stars. They are having a great time learning their instruments and preparing for our end of term concert.

Whole-school singing

Each week the whole school comes together for singing practice. This week, the children were singing about the harvest.

Sing up day 2024

In June, Uplands joined with schools from around the world to sing this year’s Sing Up Day song ‘I Belong’. We enjoyed singing together and learning British Sign Language actions for the chorus.

Watch this year’s digichoir video which has been put together for the event.  You can see Uplands children at 0:45 minutes.

Uplands Choir

A big well done to our choir children who performed as part of a fun-filled afternoon at the Highfields Centre. They joined children of all different ages from schools in the local area for songs and dances, with a finale of all schools singing ‘We’re All In This Together’ from High School Musical. Thank you to parents for supporting the event, we hope you enjoyed it!

On Wednesday, we had a visit from a choral expert who came into school to work with the children in their singing assembly. Years 3 and 4 learnt a song called ‘The Swamp’ with actions and Years 5 and 6 sang a song entitled ‘The Wind’. The children practiced including a ‘chrescendo’ and changing the volume of their voices between ‘forte’ and ‘piano’.

Our school choir visited the Curve theatre along with children from other schools to take part in the ‘Oh Happy Days’ gospel event. They performed three songs ‘Joy’, ‘Movin’ On’ and ‘All Around’.
