Being active

It is vital that children are not only active at school but also at home. The government recommends that all children participate in at least 60 minutes moderate to high intensity activity a day. Physical activity not only improves core motor skills which provides physical strength and coordination but also helps improve intellectual and emotional wellbeing. Activities do not need to involve structured activities / classes. Some great examples of moderate activity can include:

  • Walking to and from school (or other places)
  • Riding a bike
  • Walking a dog
  • Swimming
  • Dance

Developing knowledge

At Uplands, we believe that it is vital for children to understand how their bodies work and what choices they can make to improve their lifestyle. This year we have introduced an independent learning project. These are not compulsory so it is down to the children. Further information and examples of work can be found on the PE Extended Learning page.
